Geomate Jr. Geocaching Kits! Check ‘Em Out at RPL!
Thanks to the Friends of the Rye Public Library we now have two Geomate Jr. Kits available to check out and enjoy. Explore the area through the unique activity of geocaching. There are almost 1.5 million caches around the world, and hundreds in the Seacoast region. Just take the Geomate out of it’s bag, step outside, turn it on, and begin. You’ll get a direction arrow and distance to the cache nearest you. Caches are placed by geocachers (anyone–maybe you!), and are hidden containers with a log book, swap-able trinkets, and a longitude and latitude position recorded on the Geocaching.com website. Our simplified system quickly locates the closest available cache and points you toward it. Once you find it, you sign in (pencil included in the kit!), swap a trinket (trinkets included in the kit!), and click the Found It button. The geomate will then point you to the next closest cache. Check out the kit and try this fun adventure for the whole family. As you find out more, you’ll learn to search for caches in your zip code at Geocaching.com, save the coordinates, and use the clues on the website to discover specific caches. Each one has a name, some have a theme, and they all present an interesting, outdoor challenge that allows the whole family to explore and discover together. Try it! You’ll have a great time.
