Computers

The Library offers free Wi-Fi service, so bring your own laptop or use one of ours. The wireless network is public and unsecured, so please make sure that your computer is protected from computer viruses, spyware, and other malware. For more details, please read our Wireless Internet Policy.

We offer a variety of public computers for your use, including three desktop and four laptop computers running Windows XP, and two laptop computers running Ubuntu Linux. The Windows XP machines offer the Microsoft Office 2007 suite of office productivity applications, including Word, Excel, Publisher, and Access. The Ubuntu Linux machines offer the OpenOffice.org suite of office productivity applications for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, drawing, and more. All public computers offer Internet access.

In addition, there is a stand-up, 15-minute express Windows XP station where you can quickly check your email account on your way to or from the beach!

In the Youth Computer Room we have a distributed system of four desktops running off a single Linux server. These desktops offer Internet access plus the OpenOffice.org suite of office productivity applications.

Before using one of our public computer, or your own laptop on our wireless network, please take a minute to read our Acceptable Use Policy, a copy of which is available at the Main Desk.

All of our public computers are capable of printing, either to the high-speed laser printer (Main Floor public desktops) or to a color inkjet printer (public laptops and Youth Computer Room desktops). We do not offer print capability for your personal laptop, but you can save your document to a removable medium (preferably a flash/thumb/USB drive) and take it to one of our public computers to print out.

Printing is $0.10 for page for Black & White, $0.25 per page for Color. The public computers are setup to default to B&W 2-sided, so please take a moment to check the Printer Preferences and make sure that you are going to print the pages you want in the format you want.
