YAttitudes Teen Book Group for January: The Great Wide Sea

This month, teens and parents (if they choose to attend) will be discussing The Great Wide Sea by M.H. Herlong.  We meet at 7:00 P.M., and this month we’ll be at the Rye Junior High library on January 10th.

Synopsis: Still mourning the death of their mother, three brothers go with their father on an extended sailing trip off the Florida Keys and have a harrowing adventure at sea.  You won’t be able to put down this incredible, action-packed adventure.  Think about it: you wake up at sea, in the middle of the ocean with no land in site, and one of the people on the boat is missing…but where could they have gone?

Great snacks, great conversation, and this is one of the best books you’ll read this year!

Odds Bodkin, Storyteller

The Summer Reading Program continues with this week’s Very Special Guest: Storyteller, Educator, and Musician Odds Bodkin on Tuesday, July 12th, at 6:00 PM.

A graduate of Duke University, Mr. Bodkin taught storytelling and imagination for seven years at Antioch New England Graduate School while pursuing a full-time career as a children’s author and musical storyteller.  He has been a featured storyteller at The National Storytelling Festival, performed twice at The White House, and at schools, universities, museums and theaters across America.  He has told stories and conducted workshops as far afield as Bangkok, Thailand and Great Britain.

His all-original music on 12-string guitars, Celtic harp, grand piano, and other instruments makes his collection of stories resemble pieces of musical theater as much as storytelling.  His seventeen award-winning audio recordings range from original dino-musicals for young children (his multiple-award winning Little Proto Trilogy) through an eclectic collection of international folktales, fairytales, and comic tall tales.  His audios have won the Golden Headset Award, Parents’ Choice Gold and Silver Awards, two Indie Awards, the Storytelling World Award and many others.   His four children’s picture books are published by Harcourt, Houghton-Mifflin and Little, Brown publishers and have won The Pick of the Lists, Booklist Editors’ Choice, The Storytelling World Award and the New York Public Library’s 100 Best Titles for Reading and Sharing, among others.

Please join us for this very special event for children and adults of ALL AGES! Due to space limitations, sign-up is required, so please call us today at 964-8401 to get your name on the list.
