Wanted: Head of Youth Services

A Head of Youth Services who loves chaos, glitter, and tiny humans. This position
supervises all aspects of service to children ages 0-17, their families and caregivers. This
includes developing, planning, organizing and evaluating programs, collections and
operations within the Youth Services (YS) Department. Join our leadership team as we
navigate an exciting era of new management!

The Job:

  • Develop and provide literacy-based programs that engage youth and families.
  • Supervise and train YS staff and channel their passion into library gold.
  • Transform the department’s area into a well-organized wonderland.
  • Build community partnerships and represent the library at outreach events.
  • Select materials for the youth collections and design attractive displays.
  • Market and promote YS events, collections and services via social media,
    newsletters, flyers and check-out chitchat.
  • Perform reader’s advisory and reference service directly to patrons.
  • Oversee the library in the absence of the Director and Assistant Director.

What You Bring:

  • An MLIS degree; or a combination of education, training and experience; or a
    convincing magical scroll.
  • Three or more years of experience working with youth, their families and caregivers.
  • Demonstrative project management and supervisory skills.
  • Experience planning and implementing programs/events.
  • Affection for kids’ books and collection development.
  • Working knowledge of today’s library technology; we use Google Suite, Koha,
    Assabet, Canva, Libby, Kanopy, Hoopla, Ebsco/NoveList, Constant Contact, etc.

Hours & Compensation:

  • Survive just one evening per week of after-school energy.
  • Brave only one Saturday per month of weekend family madness.
  • A starting salary of $63,440 for a 40-hour work week.
  • Paid time off (sick, personal, vacation) and 12 holidays; health, dental, disability and
    life insurance benefits through HealthTrust; NH Retirement System; plus, the beach
    is nearby!
