RPL continues to be temporarily closed due to EPA recommendations on actionable levels of radon in the building. Our expedited remediation installation is underway. Further testing due late this week will indicate any option we may have for occupancy. We will make immediate notification of any change in service indicated by this latest testing. Since any current occupancy is discouraged by EPA standards we are forced to temporarily suspend all physical services, as restrictions include staff access to the RPL building. Please enjoy using RPL electronic resources during this unforeseen disruption of normal service. We recently initiated daily outreach with reading suggestions via our electronic services. Please feel free to call or e-mail for details on using the Libby or Hoopla apps. We are monitoring phones and e-mail remotely and will answer as soon as we are able. We will be unable to accept hold requests until re-opening. We have temporarily suspended catalog holds. [the indication from the system will say you have too many holds, that's just the way the programming works] Since we can't tend the book return, it will be locked until re-opening. Don't worry about overdue items, and ignore overdue notices, there will be no penalty. Please help us by keeping items safe until we announce our re-opening. We apologize for this unanticipated disturbance of service, and thank you for your patience as we work to ensure a safe environment for all at Rye Public Library.
Radon questions can be directed to Regional EPA representative Dan Burke at 888-372-7341. Mr. Burke recommends home radon testing for public safety.
